Root Canal Treatment in Troutdale, OR

Many people prefer to avoid the dental office. Unfortunately, missing dental appointments and skipping treatment recommendations can lead to the advancement of oral conditions such as decay and infection. Unfortunately, dental emergencies force patients into our Troutdale dental office because of pain.

When the infection reaches the nerve, a root canal can save an infected tooth from extraction, but only if you act fast and call Troutdale Dental for an appointment.

Signs and Symptoms Requiring a Root Canal

In addition to pain, patients may experience some or all of the following signs of infection.

  • Swelling of the face, neck, or jaw
  • Sensitivity to hot liquids and food
  • A small lesion on the gums
  • Pus and a bad taste in the mouth
  • Pressure and throbbing
  • Discoloration of the tooth
  • Difficulty eating and sleeping

To know for sure if a root canal is necessary, we welcome you to call to arrange an appointment, which will include an x-ray of the area and an exam.

How Root Canal Therapy Works

Root canals have an outdated, unfair reputation. Our dentists, Dr. Clark Brinton and Dr. Brian Hale, have introduced the latest rotary endodontic technology to make root canals efficient and accurate. It will usually feel no different than a filling, and you will leave our dental practice feeling much relieved.

Root canal therapy requires the removal of the infection deep within the tooth. We will ensure that the tooth is entirely numb so that you have a painless procedure. For our nervous patients, we also offer nitrous oxide sedation, which calms the nerves and makes the appointment feel stress-free.

Using precision rotary instruments, your dentist will clean out the infection and reshape the canal. After placing medication and filling the canal, a temporary filling will keep food and bacteria from re-entering the tooth.

Inflammation takes time to resolve, so some sensitivity is typical following a root canal. Usually, over-the-counter medication is enough to keep pain at bay.

Within a few days, you should feel markedly improved. After a week or two of allowing the body’s immune system to eliminate the infection, we will have a follow-up appointment and discuss a permanent restoration for the tooth.

Why Do I Need a Dental Crown?

Because root canals require us to remove the nerve and blood supply from the tooth, the tooth can become brittle. A dental crown will protect the tooth, prolong its life, and restore the appearance.

Our dental crowns look and feel natural for a seamless smile.
