Dental Extractions in Troutdale, OR

At Troutdale Dental, we strive to save natural teeth whenever they are healthy and work in harmony with the mouth. If we do recommend a dental extraction, we do not take it lightly and will seek other alternatives first. In some cases, removing a tooth will benefit or protect your oral health.

Reasons to Extract Teeth

Some of the most common reasons we extract teeth include:

  • Problematic wisdom teeth
  • Preparation for orthodontics
  • Deep decay that cannot be restored
  • Infection in the tooth or bone
  • Split or severely fractured teeth
  • Failed root canal teeth
  • Preparation for complete dentures

3-D Cone Beam Technology

When we plan for dental extractions, we can discuss nitrous oxide sedation if you need a little help to relax. Because we use 3-D cone beam imaging, the teeth extractions we perform in our Troutdale dental office are more efficient because of high-resolution, realistic x-rays to identify the angles of the roots, any nearby nerves, and the status of the bone.

Teeth Extraction Aftercare

Once we remove the tooth, following a few simple instructions will make healing faster and more comfortable.

Don’t smoke – Carcinogens in tobacco are proved to slow oral health healing, which includes extractions and dental implant placement.

Avoid drinking through a straw – The suction that comes from smoking or drinking through a straw can dislodge the healing tissue inside the extraction site. Not only does this open the area to bacteria, but it also causes a painful condition called dry socket.

Avoid chewing on the area – Until the tissue heals, it is a good idea to avoid chewing on the extraction site. Food particles can irritate the healing area.

Eat soft foods – Greek yogurt, sweet potatoes, lukewarm soup, and mashed potatoes can all feel comforting and are easy on your mouth while you heal.

Rinse gently – Rather than brushing the area with a toothbrush, gently swish warm water to clean away any debris.

Every patient is different. We will discuss your post-surgical care with you and cover any questions you may have.
